environmental data interactive exchange: "The latest results from the EU-funded European Ice Core Project in Antarctica (EPICA) initiative were presented by the European Commission this week.
Scientists from 10 European countries dug three kilometres deep into the Antarctic ice crust and brought a 740,000 year old ice core to the surface. This will be analysed to find changes in temperature and concentrations of gases and particles in the atmosphere. The scientists hope that by understanding past changes in climate, it will be possible to predict future climate change activities. "
